Поэтому люди, направляющиеся во дворец впервые, должны были тренироваться до тех пор, пока они не чувствовали себя уверенными в искусстве поклона и шарканья (bowing and scraping). Король и его приближённые принимали такое выражение подобострастия как должное. Люди более низкого происхождения тоже часто пытались льстить даже мелкому чиновнику.
