Слово американского происхождения, означающее «человек». Слово guy, по всей вероятности, происходит от ивритского goy (нееврей). Но есть другое, менее убедительное предположение, что это слово происходит от имени Guy Fawkes (Гай Фокс) (1570—1606), английского заговорщика, который пытался взорвать здание парламента в 1605 г. и чьё чучело сжигается ежегодно на Bonfire Night, Guy Fawkes Night (Ночь Гая Фокса, 5 ноября). Множественное число guys — удобная замена слова people в разговорной речи, когда упоминаются люди женского и мужского пола.Are you guys coming with me to the theatre tonight? — Ну что, ребята, пойдёте со мной сегодня в театр?
