This fibre obtained from a variety of the Palmetto in Northern Africa and Southern Europe, is very strong It is used by the Arabs, mixed with camels' hair, to make cloth for tents. In France it is known as " African hair " and used for carpet-making and for sails. Many years ago (about 1860) when split into fine shreds was known as "flax cotton." -
