Ka server/klient arkitekturë, të bazuar në hipermedia dhe protokol komunikimi (TCP/IP). Në fakt, Veb-i paraqet shumën e dokumenteve hipertekstuale të ndërlidhura mes vete, që gjenden në veb serverët në gjithë botën. Veb dokumentet, të njohura edhe si veb faqe, janë të shkruara në gjuhën "markuese" hipertekstuale ( HTML ). Këto datoteka mund të përmbajnë tekst (me fonte dhe stile të ndryshme), fotografi grafike, datoteka filmike dhe të zërit ose programe tjera të instaluara softuerike e të vogla, që paraqiten kur shfrytëzuesi i aktivizon me zgjedhje të lidhjes (linkut) me miun kompjuterik. Shfytëzuesi që viziton veb-faqe mundet poashtu të zbresë dokumente dhe t'u dërgojë porosi shfrytëzuesëve tjerë me postë elektronike, duke i shfytëzuar linqet e veb-faqes. Veb-i është i zhvilluar nga Timothi Bemers Li në vitin 1989, për nevojat e Këshillit Europian për Hulumtime Nukleare ( CERN ).Secili dokument në veb quhet veb-faqe (anglisht, web page ) dhe ai mund të përmbajë lidhje (hiperlinqe) për në veb-faqe tjera, që ofrojnë informata plotësuese. Veb-i bazohet në dokumente tekstuale dhe kjo e bën krijimin, rregullimin dhe transferine veb-faqeve shumë të lehtë. Veb servisi është fleksibil: në veb-faqe lehtë mund të ngjisni dokument me grafikë ose multimedia, nëse atë dokument e lidhni me datotekën (dokumentin) tekstual bazik. Poashtu ekziston mundësia që veb-faqja të ndërlidhet me veb-faqe tjera.Tërësia e veb-faqeve të ndërlidhura mes vete quhet veb-sajt ( Web site ).Servisi Veb është shërbimi më i popullarizuar i internetit, sepse grafikisht është i lehtë per përdorim, e poashtu i lehtë është edhe publikimi i informatave në veb.(Definicion tjetër për Web Veb-iështë shërbimi më i ri dhe më i popullarizuar nga serviset e shumta të përhapura në internet. Veb-i kombinon tekst, grafikë, multimedia dhe linqe mes datotekave, duke krijuar rrjet të madh të informatave, të cilat mund t'i gjejmë shumë lehtë.
