81 Riot Act
Закон об охране общественного порядка. В 1715 г. the Riot Act был принят британским парламентом в целях борьбы с мятежами и общественными беспорядками. В нём предусматривалось чтение перед толпой бунтовщиков текста закона о грозящих им наказаниях в случае, если они не прекратят бесчинства. Предполагалось, что, получив напоминание о возможных серьёзных последствиях, бунтовщики сразу же успокоятся и мирно разойдутся. Подобным образом даже сегодня военнослужащих время от времени собирают на плацу и зачитывают им вслух текст военного закона, касающегося дисциплины и 'cowardice in the face of the enemy' («трусость перед лицом врага»). To read the Riot Act to somebody значит предупредить кого-либо о неприятных последствиях его поступков.
