The Black Hole of Calcutta («чёрная дыра Калькутты») — это крохотная тюремная камера размером 5,5×4,5 м, в которую бенгальский правитель Сурайа Доула посадил 146 британских пленников в ночь с 20 на 21 июня 1756 г. Они были захвачены в плен при сдаче форта Уильяма. Только 22 мужчины и одна женщина выжили, не задохнувшись в ней.
