Its members are elected in the « élections législatives » for a five-year term. It has similar legislative powers to the House of Commons in Britain and the House of Representatives in the United States. The principal French legislative assembly, also referred to as the Chambre des Députés. The Assembly is made up of 577 deputés, members of parliament who are elected by direct universal suffrage during legislative elections that take place every five years.
