Сторонники Энн - антиномисты, названные так священниками (от греч. antinomia - противозаконность), учили, что спасение приходит от непосредственного общения с Богом. Наиболее активно антиномистов поддержали бостонские купцы, недовольные торговыми ограничениями властей, а затем и губернатор Г. Вейн [Vane, Henry], что и превратило богословский спор в социальное движение. В 1637 ортодоксы во главе с Дж. Переехала в Массачусетскую колонию [ Massachusetts Bay Colony] из Англии в 1634. В 1637 Энн и ее сторонники были изгнаны из Массачусетса и основали поселение Портсмут [ Portsmouth] (1638) на острове Эквиднек [Aquidneck Island], ныне Род-Айленд.
