1897-1952Nacido en Los Angeles, llega a la direccion en 1919 procedente del ambito de la actuacion cinematografica, donde trabaja con Mack Sennett, tambien como creador de gags. En 1921 deja a Sennett y pasa a trabajar para la productora de Buster Keaton. Mas tarde, todavia en el periodo mudo, dirige comedias romanticas que hacen abrigar la esperanza de en contrar en el a un nuevo Lubitsch. Sin embargo, la llegada del sonoro esta a punto de acabar con su carrera, que se hace menos importante a medida que pasa el tiempo. Lo encontramos a finales de los 30 en Fox, dirigiendo peliculas de serie B en la unidad de produccion de Sol Wurtzel, donde permanece hasta la clausura de la unidad en 1948, ano que coincide con el de la retirada de St. Clair de las tareas de direccion.
