Часть доходов, не использованная в определенный период времени на текущее потребление. Они распадаются на три части: личные С., С. корпораций, правительственные (нераспределенные, не истраченные согласно бюджету) доходы. На размер С. влияют высота процентной ставки и уровень доходов населения. В системе национальных счетов сбережение определяется как разность между суммой текущих доходов и суммой текущих расходов. В ряде эконометрических моделей С. приравниваются к инвестициям (см. Кейнсианская теория экономики), что, впрочем, не всегда оправданно, так как сбережения могут быть в следующем периоде истрачены и на текущие нужды, а не вложены в капитальное строительство. Это скорее часть денежной массы, по тем или иным причинам замедлившая свое обращение. В истории известны ситуации так называемых вынужденных сбережений, к которым население прибегает из-за дефицита в продаже нужных ему товаров (возникает отложенный спрос). Не следует отождествлять сбережения и непосредственно с приростом денежных вкладов в банках или с приростом денежной наличности: главный экономический смысл сбережений состоит в том, что они могут быть направлены на финансирование капитального строительства, покупку основных фондов, нематериальных активов (патенты, лицензии), на прирост финансовых активов.
